Verandah (spelling variants: veranda and formerly varando, viranda) — a) an open-sided, roofed structure abutting on one or more faces of a domestic or commercial building, the main purpose of which is the provision of shelter; b) such a structure which is either partially or fully enclosed to provide additional living space; c) obs. Such a structure abutting a commercial building as a place where business is customarily transacted; d) such a structure what is floored and used as a place for relaxation.
